Agamgik Bay

We hiked to Agamgik Bay this weekend.  It is an eight mile hike round trip.  The trail is an old World War II trail that leads down to the bay.  Hiking here is a lot of fun because of the old WWII paraphernalia you find while roaming around the island.  It is also fun because the trails are isolated and there is usually no one else on them.  It is just us and the great outdoors!   We really get to enjoy the beauty of this place.

At the beginning of our hike we found these guys...can you see them?

Here is a closer look...

This is the other herd of horses on the island.  They were camouflaged in the tundra, but Steve spotted them across a creek from us.  They watched us until we were out of sight.  An interesting fact I learned recently is that all the wild horses on the island (as well as the wild cattle) were castrated by the native people of Unalaska.  These will be the last of the horses until someone brings more to the island.

The trail led over some peaks, through some valleys, and across a few creeks.

It rained off and on throughout the day.  We have come to expect nothing less!  It rains 300 days a year here.  With a rain shower came this beautiful rainbow.

We had lost the trail for a little while and were trying to find our way back to it.  I thought we weren't going to make it to the bay, but we rounded a hill and there it was...

Agamgik Bay.
(Steve and I still find ourselves saying, "Can you believe we live here?"  It truly is an amazing place!)

We hiked down to the bay and walked along the rocky shore to a point on the other side.  It literally feels like you are at the end of the earth!  The isolation, and the true beauty of it all makes you feel that way.

We sat together, at the end of the earth, and ate a peanut butter sandwich.  ;-)
